David,

Thanks for this comment. We definitely need to keep moving and, you're right, tai chi is an excellent way to do this. I've found that doing shorter forms also has the intended effect of changing brain chemistry. A lot of people are turned off by the length of time it takes to learn the long form, even folks in China, and stop studying. The fact that Dr. Lam, along with others, has developed shorter forms should be helpful to many people.

Good morning John. I have been a diabetic for a little over 3 years. Type II diabetes is sadly becoming a common problem in both adults and now children. One of the many factors is the lack of phyical activites and being overweight. Exercise is an imporant part of controling this condition. Tai chi is perfect for diabetics. It gets out of shape people moving again. A by product of the condition is depression. Nothing fights depression bettter than the focus needed for the long form. Dr Paul Lam is a well known tai chi instructor and medical doctor. He has created a seperate tai chi forms for people with diabetes, back problems and arthritis. Thank you for sharing this study.

Walt,

You're absolutely right when you say "such sentiments were likely born of experience." I've injured myself at times just because I wasn't paying attention. I'd prefer not to do that anymore.

I hope your wife is doing well with her diabetes. I know a few people with with the disease and I know they would rather not have to deal with it.

Thanks,
John

<i>"It’s much better to stay healthy than it is to wait until after you’ve fallen ill. Don’t you think?"</i>

It's easy enough to take good health for granted while you've got it, but as the old song goes, ♫ <i>"...you don't know what you've got till it's gone..."</i> ♫. Oh, and the tried and true, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Such sentiments were likely born of experience.

My wife was diagnosed with diabetes two decades ago. Folks, you don't want it, believe me.
