People who practice tai chi come from very diverse backgrounds, but there’s one thing that seems to link all of us together. It’s the glue that not only holds us together as a group, but also keeps us interested in tai chi. It’s what keeps tai chi interesting for each of us and is also part of the healing power of tai chi.
My teacher first pointed it out to me after I’d been studying for around 6 months. Later, when I later met our master, I found he definitely shared this trait. It has made a difference for me in may areas of life and it keeps things fun and interesting.
So, what is this magical glue that binds us together? It’s the ability to laugh at ourselves. That’s right, a sense of humor combined with a sense of self.
Being able to laugh at yourself seems to be the key, not only for sticking with it, but also for enjoying life in general. I’ve found that my tai chi practice not only gives me more energy so I feel better, it also helps me keep the rest of my life in perspective.
So next time things aren’t quite going your way see if you can find some humor in your situation. If you can remember to do this it will take the edge off and you may see a solution you didn’t notice before.
Above all, remember to laugh. Bye for now.
John
