We’ve heard it before “Tai chi is incredibly good for what ails ya, and some of what doesn’t.” Hell, you’ve heard it from me too. So, are you expecting tai chi to be your savior? If so, you’d better practice a lot.
A little tai chi practice will take you a long way, but if that’s all you’re doing for yourself you may want to look at some other things to add to your arsenal. Why… because your body needs support to keep you healthy all through life.
Just making a few changes can help support you and help you feel even better. Do little things like eating a little better, parking your car at the end of the lot and walking to the store. Look at making some small adjustments to your lifestyle. Pick one small thing each month and change that behavior.
I spend a lot of time practicing tai chi, yet I still look at how much and what I eat. I park my car on the edge of the downtown area or at the end of the parking lot and walk to the store. Over the years I’ve added these little habits that help support my good health.
Now don’t get me wrong, I still do things I’m told I shouldn’t but I believe moderation is the key to a happy and healthy life. When I was in my 20′s I spent one year really watching everything I did. I felt great and I was miserable much of the time. Needless to say, that didn’t last forever.
If you’re really craving something and haven’t had it for a while, go ahead and have it all the way. For example if you’ve cut out sweets but you really want a hot fudge sundae, have it with everything, then don’t do that again for a while. You’ll enjoy that sundae immensely and you don’t have to feel guilty about it. Doing something a little bad once in a while is not usually a big deal, so don’t worry about it.
Does being really healthy all the time make you live longer? I’m not really sure but I do know one thing, it sure makes it seem that way.
What do you think?
John
