Black Friday Tai Chi Practice

tai chi and the inner rebel.jpgWell it’s Black Friday once again.  I’m not sure how the day earned this label, but to me it seems a bit of a heavy label for the fist official day of the Christmas shopping season.   In fact I think a little too heavy and ominous sounding, so I’m rebelling against the “Black Friday” label.  From here on the day after Thanksgiving is to be called “White Friday” to remind us that this is a time of gratitude and good cheer toward our fellow human beings… yes even that lady right in front of you in line who got the last Matchbox Rocky, the Robot Truck your kid was screaming for.

I’ve been working on my inner rebel for a little while now and a friend just posted an interesting tai chi (taiji) article on just that.  As usual my take is slightly askew.  After all look at how I segued from Black Friday to the inner rebel by changing the official label here at CampTaiChi.com to White Friday.  Pretty smooth if I do say so myself.

Steven over at Real Taijiquan wrote this interesting piece about tai chi as seen through the eyes of the quintessential American rebel, James Dean. I’ve always been a bit a bit of a rebel, which is probably one of the reasons I was drawn to tai chi.  As I get older I look to conform a bit more than I used to, but it’s conformity from the perspective of a rebel.  I guess you could call it conforming on my own terms.

From Steven’s perspective (James Dean), tai chi is used to help us live fast through moving slower.  I’m not even going to try to explain this one.  Steven does a much better job than I probably could.  He also gives us two other interesting tips on how tai chi will improve our lives, a la James Dean.

Head on over to Real Taijiquan and read the article.  I’d like to add something here; I’m mentioning Steven’s article because I think it’s interesting, not because he mentioned me in the article.  ;-)

Your thoughts?

    Ok Mr. Rebel,
Here’s an answer as to why it is called black Friday… and it actually in not that ominous at all.
I heard this explanation somewhere over the last few days.
The reason it is called Black Friday is because it is the day that retailers hope to finally go into the black and out of the red with their business bottom line for the year. With all the shopping on that day…Black Friday… becomes a good thing for retailers because they hopefully will make enough on that one day as well as into the next few weeks to keep their doors open for yet another year.
Just a little retail fyi according to my TV source… = D

    HAPPY SHOPPING!

    Mel,

I’ve heard that before, but since I hadn’t heard it for a while I had forgotten that little tidbit. Calling it ominous is a lot more fun though. ;-)
